THE SYRIA SHRINERS BAND

SUMMARY:

The Syria Shrine Band is a Unit of the Syria Shriners located in Cheswick, PA. The Syria Shriners formed in 1877, is part of the Shriners International. Shriner clubs have centers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Republic of Panama. Shriners are known for their enjoyment of life and a commitment to philanthropy. They enjoy parades, trips, dances, dinners, sporting events and other social occasions. In which they support what has been called the “World’s Greatest Philanthropy,” Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 pediatric specialty hospitals, operated and maintained by the Shriners. All children, up to 18 years old, may be eligible for treatment at Shriners Hospitals. Eligibility is not based on financial need or relationship to a Shriner. The Band has a heritage that goes back over 100 years and consists of over 60 musicians from the Pittsburgh areas. It was the first All-Shriner Band in North America. The band is active year round. Playing in parades during the summer months and perform concerts year round. Every year the Band travels to the Mid Atlantic Shrine Association were it competes with other Shriners Band, receiving superior and excellent ratings. It has performed in many concerts and parades throughout the Pittsburgh area as well as in New Jersey and Virginia. Their performances have been acclaimed by many as one of the most enjoyable concerts ever attended. One of the Band’s main activities is their annual concert with the Syria Chanters and Highlanders. The Band’s repertoire includes music from the classics, pops and familiar marches. The Band rehearses twice a month on the second and fourth Thursday, from 7pm – 9 pm at the Syria Shrine Center in Cheswick PA. If you are interest in joining the band there are no auditions.
